Insightra Medical, Inc. and Novus Scientific AB have announced a strategic alliance around Novus’ TIGR® Matrix Surgical Mesh technology for soft tissue repair in the US via Insightra’s national direct sales channel.

Made from synthetic polymers, TIGR® Matrix is a long-term resorbable surgical mesh intended to support and reinforce soft tissue for 6-9 months before absorbing completely after 3 years. It has been FDA cleared since 2010 and is available in three sizes.

“In the quest to become a full-line hernia technology supplier, adding TIGR® Matrix to our portfolio fills an important void in our offering. Having both high-end synthetics and biologics, TIGR® Matrix fills the gap between the two,” says Brad Sharp, CEO at Insightra Medical.

“We are very pleased to be working in the US with Insightra around our TIGR® Matrix technology, given their focus on hernia and soft tissue repair. Insightra’s dedication to promoting technology that reduces pain and other known complications in soft tissue repair caught our attention from the beginning,” says Stefan Sowa, CEO at Novus Scientific.

TIGR® Matrix has gained positive feedback and been well reviewed in publications from numerous hernia specialists. The most recent scientific publication reported the successful use of TIGR® Matrix in 63 patients in complex abdominal wall repair where it demonstrated surgical outcomes similar to biologic mesh implants typically used in these kinds of procedure, but at a decreased cost.1

Bruce Ramshaw, MD, Chair of Department of Surgery at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine in Knoxville, has used TIGR® Matrix since 2011. Dr. Ramshaw explains: “Applying the principles of value-based Clinical Quality Improvement, we used TIGR® Matrix for patients who undergo complex Abdominal Wall Reconstruction (AWR). By replacing the biologic meshes we previously used for AWR, we saw significant savings for the hospital and when combined with other process improvement ideas, we saw better outcomes.”

As foundation partner of the Americas Hernia Society Quality Collaborative (AHSQC), Insightra Medical encourages all surgeons to enter their use of hernia implants into this registry to improve patient outcome.
